My only experiences with Mopar convertibles are P, J, and old school
E. I have never seen a windshield crack in a FWD car. The P has a LOT of
extra support between the front and rear wheels. It also has permanent
fixed support "triangle" windows on the sides. I had to add support on the
E. I have seen those crack at about 600HP at a drag strip without the
subframe connectors. ; ) My experiences with the J convertible are
through friends. I owned an '87 J new in '87 but never a J 'vert. I have
several friends with them, some of which were also purchased new. No
problems to date. I would suspect that if a G body had the same kind of
under body support for a convertible top, there wouldn't be any problems
with those either. I'm willing to bet Chrysler just used a sawsall and
made a few T-Top cars without consideration to body / frame stiffening. If
that is the case, I could see why windshields would crack in T-Top cars.
Especially if you bump up the HP and launch it hard. I would be curious to
know if anybody has a regular hard top and a T-Top G body. Look under it
and see if there are any frame differences.
