SD> alternator (was charging problem)

Would it be possible to use a "one wire" alternator to get around this 
issue?
The Ford or GM alternators are fairly low cost and 100 amp units would 
be an upgrade for a lot of our MOPARs.
Would this cause a check engine light or trigger a limp mode?
