Major thanks to all on the list for the tips. 
The alternator tested good and Tim Pendall called it early on with a Power  
Module. I suppose it was the clamping circuit that supplies a ground pulse to  
the field leads. The field voltage started at 4V and rose to around 8V,  
however, the alternator never responded. I suppose one would need a  scope or other 
measurement device to validate the field signal. Reason  being is that the 
new PM was not returnable.
In any case, she is back on the road and 375 mi. into a break in.
