SD> Auto vs. Stick

I found a really nice 70K mile 2.5 engine in an Acclaim to replace  
the blown one in my car; but it's got an automatic behind it. Does it  
make a difference?  With the old V8's we had to have a "pilot hole"  
in the crankshaft, or it was no go.  What are the issues with FWD  
cars?  Thanks.
