I agree with Rich.  Don't use synthetic.  It's too slippery and will damage syncro gears.  They need the slight bit of friction to get turning and that doesn't happen well with synthetic.  You end up grinding gears.
Besides, Cliff R says not to and that's good enough for me.  Also, you'll save money!  LOL.
